The Price of a Single Grape
Mac (R. D. MacManes)

He raped a grape once,
peeled back seedless skin
in the confines,
of a hateful mind.

The grape plucked
from some fragrant vineyard
well before it’s time,
destined for some back ally
never to be fully refined.

He sits in near darkness,
trying to pull sanity
from the crumpled jaws,
of a wine stained brown bag,
while the knowledge
of past transgressions
ferment in the corners
of his feeble mind.
